Aksum
Aksum is a cigar brand created by the Foundation Cigar Company, founded by Nicholas Melillo in June 2015. It pays tribute to the ancient Kingdom of Aksum and is known for its Maduro version, crafted at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper and a Connecticut Broadleaf binder.
Geschichte
The line was first launched under the name "Metapa," honoring the hometown of Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío. In February 2024, the brand renamed it Aksum to strengthen its connection with the biblical inspiration of the Ark of the Covenant and its symbolic journey. The change came with a redesign of the bands and boxes, which now feature the image of Ras Makonnen, father of Haile Selassie and a prominent Ethiopian leader. The cigars are crafted at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua.
