JR Cigars
JR Cigars is an American house founded in New York by Lew Rothman, which grew into one of the leading names in the U.S. cigar business. Its own-brand range, the JR Alternative Cigars, offers a wide selection of vitolas, with Dominican, Honduran and Nicaraguan versions in different wrappers and strengths.
Geschichte
The house's story begins in 1971 with a small shop in Manhattan, officially opened on March 10, 1971 by Lew Rothman. The name JR takes the initials of his father, Jack Rothman. Trained in his family's tobacco shops, Rothman turned that modest location into a company that became one of the biggest names in the U.S. cigar business. The house then pioneered an original idea: ordering Punch and Hoyo cigars without boxes or bands, so they could be sold in bundles at lower cost. That approach led to the JR Alternative Cigars line, which has been part of the house for more than half a century. In 2003, JR Cigars was acquired by Altadis USA.
