Matilde
Matilde is a Dominican cigar brand, produced by Matilde Cigar Co. and linked to the Blanco family. Rooted in Santiago de los Caballeros, the house is known for carefully crafted blends and limited production runs, carrying a proudly Dominican tradition.
History
The brand dates back to 1876, when Simeon Mencía founded the factory in Santiago de los Caballeros. Run by his sons, it ceased operations in 1910. A century later, José Seijas, who joined Tabacalera García in 1974 as head of quality control, became master blender in 1984 before retiring in 2011. The following year he returned to the trade alongside his sons Enrique and Ricardo, favouring limited output to perfect his blends. In 2014, as a tribute to the Dominican Republic, he relaunched the Matilde brand.
