The Quesada house is a cigar brand rooted in a family active in tobacco for over a century, with its manufacturing based in the Dominican Republic. It produces premium cigars made in Santiago's free trade zone by a workforce of over three hundred people.

History

The Quesada family arrived in Cuba from Spain as bakers. In the late nineteenth century it entered tobacco when a debt owed to the family was settled with tobacco. In 1929, seeking new and different cigars, the family came to the Dominican Republic, while the company remained in Havana until the 1960s. MATASA was formed to handle manufacturing and established in June 1974 in a free trade zone in Santiago, starting with three cigar rollers and soon growing to thirty-five. In April 2002, a plane crash claimed Julio Fajardo, Alvaro Quesada and Alvarito, leaving Manolo in charge. Today the fifth generation of the family runs the facility alongside him.
