Strength or flavour intensity?
Strength describes perceived power: the sense of body on the palate and the effect of nicotine. It says nothing about how rich the aromas are: a mild cigar can be very aromatic, a full one fairly simple.
On cigar pages, strength goes from 1 (mild) to 5 (full): 1 mild, 2 mild to medium, 3 medium, 4 medium to full, 5 full.
Where does strength come from?
Mostly from the filler, especially the top leaves of the plant (ligero), which get the most sun. The wrapper brings aromas and sweetness more than strength.
Size matters too: a large ring gauge burns cooler and often feels milder than a thin vitola rolled with the same tobaccos.
When the strength is not published
When the house does not publish the strength, Humido works it out from the tobaccos and size. Your own ratings then refine your recommendations.
