History
The brand owes its name not to a dynasty of planters but to a fictional character: Gilbert de Montsalvat, the protagonist of the novel Der Papst von Genf. Inspired by this hero, Swiss entrepreneur Raymondo Bernasconi turned the name into a cigar brand in 2008. On the bands, the silhouette shown is not the character but Bernasconi himself, wearing his signature hat.
