History

The original name of the brand dates back to 1519, when the city of Havana was named after San Cristóbal. The brand was launched in 1999, at the dawn of the new millennium, as a tribute to the city's history. Its first vitolas bore the names of four historic fortresses built between the 16th and 18th centuries to defend the city: El Morro, La Fuerza, La Punta and El Príncipe. In 2004, the range was enriched with the Mercaderes, Oficios and Murallas vitolas, named after emblematic streets of Old Havana's historic centre. Every year, Habanos presents new exclusive productions for its specialised distribution channels.
